Advent day 3
Warrior 1 (Virabhadrasana I)
So the first of the warriors is a yoga regular and one of the most powerful, strengthening and total body toning asanas there is. First of all the nick name we adopt "Warrior" can seem at odds with the whole Yoga peace & love vibe so let me explain where that comes from.
One of the most important txts referred to in yoga theology is called the Bhagavad-Gita. The asana is a reference to this txt and a celebration of the “spiritual warrior,” who battles self-ignorance and suffering.
The Peace Warrior (there's an oxymoron for you). Benefits
Stretches the chest and lungs, shoulders and neck, belly, groins (psoas) - we need to stretch this to help the bum ignite and "tone" 🍑
Strengthens the shoulders and arms, and the muscles of the back
Strengthens and stretches the thighs, calves, and ankles *tip: ROOT feet down into the Earth (mat) press the toes and heels down which will bring strength and stability the thighs. * often we lean forward tilting the pelvis down which puts excessive pressure on the lower spine and will weaken the core. To correct this, curl the tail bone under and pull the pubis toward the navel and lengthen the tail toward the floor.
