Today’s @yogalifeuk focused on opening the hips- (piriformis) which is so important if you want to release lower back and knee pain or help tone up your ass! We often stand with our feet turned out (externally rotated) which places extra stress on the ankle, knee, back and reduces the action of the bum (glute med). So let’s get twisted and open you up!
Steps to deepen the asana… Press the right hand against the floor just behind your back to help lengthen the entire body.
Erect the spine and lengthen from tailbone to the crown of your head
Press the sole of the rooted foot very firmly into the floor & tick the knee in.
You can turn your head to gaze over the shoulder but think of moving from the heart/shoulders and not the neck!
With every inhalation (breath in) lift a little more through the chest and lengthen the spine (pushing your hands against the floor to help). Twist a little more with every exhalation (breathe out). Stay for 30 seconds to 1 minute, then release with an exhalation
Stimulates the liver and kidneys
Stretches the shoulders, hips, and neck
Stimulates the digestive organs
